Corey James x WORKROOM

WORKROOM joined forces with UK DJ and producer Corey James for a two-day electronic music writing camp at Rekorder Studios and STMPD Recording Studios in Amsterdam.

The event brought together a selected group of artists, songwriters, producers and engineers working across house, tech house, club music and the wider electronic scene. The focus of the day was to develop original ideas for the Corey James project while creating space for new collaborations between talent from the UK, the Netherlands and across Europe.

Each studio was built around a different combination of creative strengths. Producers were paired with vocalists, songwriters and artists who could bring something distinct to the session, allowing every room to approach the brief from a different direction.

A Writing Camp Built Around Corey James

At the centre of the camp was Corey James, a Liverpool-born DJ and producer whose releases span some of dance music’s most recognised labels, including STMPD RCRDS, SIZE Records, Axtone, Armada Music, Protocol Recordings and Spinnin’ Records.

Known for high-energy electronic records that balance impact with melody, Corey has built a career across international releases, collaborations and performances. The Amsterdam writing camp created an opportunity to step beyond the usual release cycle and explore new records with a wider group of writers, vocalists and producers.

Artists, Songwriters and Producers in the Room

The sessions brought together an intentionally varied group of established professionals and emerging talent.

Mark Maitland joined the camp with extensive experience across electronic music. Through Studio Eleven Music, Mark has worked across production, writing, mixing and mastering, bringing a detailed technical perspective alongside his experience developing records from the initial idea through to the final master.

German producer and songwriter Max Adrian brought an extensive background in electronic music writing and production. His credits and collaborations include work connected with artists such as Armin van Buuren, Tungevaag, LNY TNZ and Mike Williams, making him a strong addition to sessions focused on commercially competitive dance records.

Amsterdam-based artist Carston joined as a singer, songwriter and producer. Signed to Cloud 9 Music, Carston combines vocal songwriting with electronic production and organic instrumentation, allowing him to contribute across topline, melody, lyrics and production within the same session.

Dutch music producer Tones (Arjen Thonen) brought years of experience within electronic music. Working across production and songwriting, Arjen has developed releases and collaborations under different projects while continuing to work with artists and producers across the Dutch dance scene.

Producer and songwriter BANKRS (Blake Martin) added another perspective from the Amsterdam electronic music community. Blake works across songwriting, production and his own artist releases and is represented by Armada Music Publishing, connecting his creative work with one of the most established companies in global dance music.

Ryan Blu joined the sessions as an artist, songwriter and producer with a strong focus on collaboration. His work moves between electronic music and pop songwriting, with releases and studio projects created alongside artists and producers from different parts of the international writing community.

Haarlem-based DJ and producer Sem Griffin was also part of the camp. Working within contemporary electronic music, Sem has continued to build his own sound through original productions and releases, supported by a growing profile within the Dutch dance scene.

Completing the group was Dutch artist and singer-songwriter Famke Evers. With solo music including the project Avondblauw, Famke brought a vocalist-led perspective to the sessions, contributing to the songwriting, toplines and ideas developed throughout the day.

A Full Day of Collaboration in Amsterdam

Across the four studios, the participants moved quickly from introductions and early ideas into writing, production and vocal recording. Every room was given the freedom to interpret the brief differently, creating a range of ideas shaped by the individual strengths of the people involved.

For WORKROOM, the event represented exactly what our sessions are built around: placing talented people in the right rooms, creating the conditions for genuine collaboration and giving artists, writers and producers the time to focus fully on making music.

The Corey James x WORKROOM writing camp also continued our growing programme of studio sessions in Amsterdam, bringing together international talent while building stronger creative links between the UK and Dutch electronic music communities.
